A
Liquid is a state of matter in which particles have enough energy
to overcome some of the attractive forces that hold them together.
They are free enough to move around each other, but not as free
as gasses in which the attracting forces are completely overcome
by the energy of the particles.
Liquids also have a definite volume, but its shape will change to
whatever container it is in.
Water is a liquid because its particles have enough energy so they
can overcome some of the attracting forces, but not all of them.
The particles in water can move over and around each other so they
don't have a definite shape but they do have a definite volume.
